About Munnar
Perched at over 1,600 metres above sea level in Kerala’s Idukki district, Munnar is a hill station unlike any other in India. Once the summer retreat of the British Raj, the town is now synonymous with endless rolling tea gardens, cool mountain air, and some of the most stunning landscapes in South India. Whether you’re a honeymooner, a solo trekker, or a family looking for a cool escape from the plains, Munnar delivers an experience that stays with you long after you leave.
The landscape here is surreal — carpets of bright green tea stretch across hillsides as far as the eye can see, interrupted only by silver streams, rocky peaks, and the occasional eucalyptus grove. In the early morning, mist rolls through the valleys like a slow river, and the sunsets paint the Western Ghats in shades of gold and purple. Munnar is home to the Neelakurinji flower, which blooms once every twelve years, covering the hills in a blanket of blue — a phenomenon seen nowhere else on earth.
Beyond its natural beauty, Munnar has a rich cultural and agricultural heritage. The town’s tea industry dates back to the 1880s, and you can still visit working plantations, learn about tea processing, and taste some of India’s finest brews. Spice gardens grow cardamom, pepper, cinnamon, and vanilla in the surrounding hills, filling the air with an intoxicating fragrance. For wildlife enthusiasts, Eravikulam National Park is home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, and the surrounding forests shelter elephants, langurs, and a rich variety of birdlife.
